Lenovo Group today announced that it has signed a conditional sales and purchase agreement to sell its entire interest in its mobile handset business to a private equity group led by Hony Capital, the private equity arm of Legend Holdings.
We believe the time is right to create a new, independent mobile products company solely focused on building a winning business model in its market space. This agreement provides the handset business with the opportunity to operate independently and set its own strategic direction.
We’re pleased to announce that Lu Yan will lead the new mobile products company. Yan demonstrated strong leadership in the turnaround of our desktop business. He has the entrepreneurial spirit and passion required for this unique opportunity.
We recognize that any major structural change like this creates questions. We will answer those questions and provide information in a timely manner. Further communications will be coming as soon as details are available.
Our handset team worked tirelessly and with great passion in building this business to become the fourth largest handset supplier in China.
